CiNCA Equity Series: Environmental Racism & East Austin

CiNCA Equity Series: Environmental Racism & East Austin

This interactive workshop explored the history of environmental racism as it pertains to people of color, parks & public spaces in Austin.

The Community Archivists from the Austin History Center provided a historical overview of the local ordinances and national movements which exacerbated already tenuous race relations in Austin. Workshop attendees participated in small group discussions to unpack the historical and contemporary contexts in which people of color (dis)engage with parks and public spaces today.

This event is part of the CiNCA Equity Series.
The workshop took place on Tuesday May 21. 2019 at the Richard Scott Bldg. 4717 Heflin Lane Austin, TX. 78721

CiNCA MISSION
The mission of the Children in Nature Collaborative of Austin (CiNCA) is to ignite and fan the flames of the regional movement to reconnect kids to the wonder and joy of the natural world and to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.
To achieve this, the CiNCA brings together schools, service providers, state and local government officials and members of the community with a stake in developing children who are happier, healthier and smarter as a result of being connected to nature and concepts of sustainability on a regular basis. The CiNCA provides a venue for these stakeholder groups to come together and share and seek resources collectively, collaborate more effectively and streamline programmatic efforts.Austin History Center, Austin Public Library
